Welcome to GENESIS

The current situation of Environment management and Health actors is characterized by numerous barriers to efficient cooperation and sharing of resources, mainly caused by:

  • Scattered services, data and catalogues
  • The lack of standardization of legacy system

The GENESIS project has the objective of developing an efficient solution based on advanced ICT to constitute collaborative information networks, integrating existing systems.

Relying on standards and in strong synergy with the major European or global harmonization initiatives, the proposed solution is based on a thematic-neutral collaborative framework, made of Web services, portal components and toolkits.
This framework can be easily customized and deployed for various thematic fields. It is validated through real use-case scenarios in Air Quality and Water Quality domains and their impacts on Health.

Needs addresses by GENESIS

  • easy discovery and access to information whatever its source, e.g. space data, in-situ data, historical databases and location;
  • combination of heterogeneous environmental data, e.g. static and near-real-time data, different spatio-temporal coverage and resolution;
  • correlation between environmental and health data
  • Near Real Time decision-making processes;
  • Implementation of the European Policies, in particular the INSPIRE, CAFEU (Clean Air for Europe) and WFD (Water Framework Directive) Directives.

The main objectives of GENESIS

  • To increase the amount of resources, data or services accessible to all
  • To ease the build-up of new systems compliant with standards
  • To foster the collaboration between communities and the sharing of resources
  • To help the take-up of an e-market of services by providing a generic framework

The GENESIS project represents an important to an effective wide deployment of the solution as part of the future SISE (Single Information Space in Europe for the Environment).
