The Portal Factory is a component to create and deploy thematic and personalized Portals in Liferay. Administrators are allowed to define Thematic Domains with the policies and constrains to follow in each scenario. After that, user with the proper rights can select one of the available scenarios and configure and deploy a new personalized Portal based on it.

Portal Factory is compound by three subcomponents that can be deployed in Liferay.

-Thematic Domain is the responsible of creating a scenario. Thematic Domain defines the compulsory pages of the portal, mandatory and optional components to include in those pages, the appearance the portal will have, and the users that will be allowed to access to the portals generated from it.

-Thematic Portal is in charge of the creation, configuration and deployment of a new Thematic Portal. After selecting the scenario, user can define the name, url and the look and feel of the new Portal, create more pages (selecting the components to include into them) and order them and decide the layout of each page, and then order and configure each component indicating the properties requested.

-Components Manager. It manages the components available in Liferay (the ones from Genesis and the common ones offered by Liferay), organizing and ordering them in categories. Dependencies between components can also be managed; this means that if one component depends on other, when the first component is deployed in a page, the other is also deployed in the same page. New components are included through the Auto Discover action, which analyzes the system in order to locate new components.
